Leave Artiste Of The Year Solely To Public Voting – Ashis To TGMA Organizers

Nana Poku Ashis has made a proposal to the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

The artiste manager and entertainment pundit has asked the organizers of TGMA to let the public decide who wins the Artiste of the Year.

He argued that the public is in a better position to choose the winner of the Artiste of the Year, knowing more about the popularity and impact of songs and their artistes.

“The Artiste of the Year should be left to the public. I strongly think if they want to be very fair, they should pull out the academy, pull out the board from voting, because it’s a populist award.

“Same with the Song of the Year, we all know, it is the public that actually know which particular song was the biggest hit in the year under review. But then when the technicalities come to add up to it, it takes it from who was actually supposed to win. Once they say it’s a populist award, they should leave that overall artiste and most popular song of the year to the public to vote,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

Again, Ashis said there should be periodic changes to the board and academy membership;

“I think they should change people on the board from time to time. Some of these people have been there for too long, and they’ve written the same notes over and over again. It’s not refreshing. It’s about time they bring in new people with new ideas.

“The young generation is different. See, some of our old people do not understand what is going on now with the younger generation and the trends of music they are doing. So if you keep the same people on the board for too long, you’ll be frustrating most of new crop of artistes and the kind of productions they bring out,” he stated.

TGMA: Gyakie should have won Female Vocalist of the Year – Ras Kuuku argues

Ras Kuuku, known in real life as Kojo Kurankye, has voiced his disappointment over the results of the Female Vocalist of the Year category at the recent Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

In a candid interview on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, Ras Kuuku asserted that fellow musician, Gyakie, was more deserving of the award.

The “Me Mpaebo” hitmaker expressed his frustration, highlighting Gyakie’s significant contributions to the music industry over the past year.

“I think Gyakie should have won the Female Vocalist of the Year. She did a lot of work last year, especially with the songs she featured with the boy (North London’s rap riser JBEE) who is coming from the UK. She did well but she had nothing, why is that so?” Ras Kuuku questioned.

Ras Kuuku’s endorsement of Gyakie stems from her impressive body of work and her collaborations, which have garnered substantial acclaim.

He believes that her efforts and talent should have been recognized by the TGMA committee, reflecting the sentiments of many fans who share his view.
