I Didn’t Go To America To Stay There For Years Before Beyoncé Contacted Me – Shatta Wale

0

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has responded to critics questioning his international influence. He says his global footprint was secured long before chasing recognition abroad became a trend.

During a recent interview on Asempa FM, Shatta challenged the notion that an artist must travel overseas to earn international relevance. He declared that his career had already reached major milestones, performing on stages around the world well before social media and blogs became the main yardsticks of fame.

“I want to educate the general public about what an international show is. It is not by leaving the shores of Ghana for America that makes you international. If I show you my DM and the people I talk to, I am already in that international space,” he explained.

Shatta Wale also pointed to his collaboration with global icon Beyoncé as further proof of his worldwide reach.

“I didn’t go to America to stay there for years before Beyoncé contacted me. Vybes Kartel and I have a very good relationship. When I post, international artistes like DJ Khaled and others react to it. I don’t need to travel out of Ghana to be an international artiste.

“I have to work from home for my products to speak for themselves,” the Shatta Movement boss stated.

I’m Not Being Paid To Champion ‘Red Means Stop’ Campaign – Medikal Reveals

0

Ghanaian rapper Medikal says his involvement in the National Youth Authority’s anti-drug initiative, “Red Means Stop,” will not come with any financial reward, stressing that his decision to lend his name to the campaign is purely voluntary.

The artiste revealed this while speaking during the public unveiling of his appointment on March 12, 2026. According to him, the choice to support the campaign came after careful reflection about how he could channel his influence into something that would have a long-term social benefit.

He explained that he wanted his brand to be associated with a cause that could genuinely shape the future, particularly in the fight against substance abuse among young people.

“I was like, what can I do with my brand that will be so impactful that in the next 20 to 30 years I can sit down and be like, this is the reason there’s a reduction in the use of drugs and substances? I want people to know, especially Ghanaians, that I’m not being paid for this. This is out of my own will to do something to help society and try to be impactful,” Medikal disclosed.

The announcement confirming his role was made the same day at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment. The ceremony was led by the sector minister, George Opare Addo, and attended by officials from the National Youth Authority, including its Chief Executive Officer, Osman Ayariga.

The “Red Means Stop” campaign is part of a wider push by authorities to confront the growing misuse of synthetic drugs among the youth. In recent months, the substance commonly referred to as “Red” has drawn concern from policymakers and health advocates who warn about its increasing presence in youth communities.

Through the initiative, the National Youth Authority intends to roll out public education drives, advocacy programmes and community engagement activities designed to warn young people about the dangers of drug abuse and promote healthier life choices.

Taking to social media, the award-winning musician spoke about his rise to fame at a young age and how he has managed to remain relevant in the industry for more than two decades.

According to Samini, he became a star at the age of 21 and continues to thrive in the music scene at 44.

Lawyer William Kusi, the legal representative for Akosua Serwaa, the first wife of late Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba, has dismissed rumours claiming that he is sick and bedridden.

The rumours reportedly surfaced amid ongoing tensions and public exchanges between supporters of Daddy Lumba’s two wives following the musician’s passing.

Some individuals believed to be aligned with “Team Odo Broni,” including TikToker Freda Afriyie, allegedly claimed that the lawyer had been left bedridden due to an undisclosed illness.

In response to the claims, Lawyer William Kusi addressed the issue in a recent interview shared on the TikTok page of Akoto Trends, where he categorically denied the allegations.

According to him, the reports about his health were completely false and unfounded.

He stated clearly that he is in good health and continuing with his normal activities.

The lawyer also revealed that the rumours caused unnecessary concern among his relatives and friends, many of whom contacted him to verify the information after hearing the claims circulating online.

He noted that the misinformation had created panic among people close to him.

Lawyer Kusi urged the public, especially his followers and loved ones, to disregard the rumours and avoid spreading unverified information.

His clarification comes at a time when discussions surrounding Daddy Lumba’s family continue to generate attention on social media.

Lilwin Reveals How A DNA Test He Conducted Showed A Child He Raised For 10 Years Is Not His

0

Ghanaian Kumawood actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has revealed that a DNA test confirmed that a child he had been raising for about ten years is not his biological child.

The actor made the revelation during a discussion with media personalities Kwame Gee and Trouble Carlos while addressing criticism about scenes in his movies.

Lilwin explained that many of the scenes in his productions are inspired by real-life experiences and are meant not only to entertain audiences but also to educate them about situations people face in everyday life.

According to the actor, one of the life experiences that inspired a movie storyline was the shocking result of a DNA test which revealed that a child he had been fathering for ten years was not biologically his.

Despite the painful discovery, Lilwin said he did not allow the situation to overwhelm him.

The Kumawood star noted that the DNA result did not deeply upset him because he believes he has already helped raise and support many children through various means, including his school.

However, he admitted that what made him somewhat angry was the conduct of the child’s mother, who he claims allegedly knew the child belonged to another man but still treated him poorly.

Lilwin explained that experiences like these are part of the reason he incorporates real-life stories into his films, with the aim of advising and educating people about relationships, trust and responsibility.

The actor, who is also a film producer, has built a reputation for using his movies to combine comedy with social messages, drawing inspiration from events he has encountered in his personal life.

‘It Takes Extra Effort’ – Gyakie Laments Challenges for Female Artistes

0

Ghanaian singer Gyakie says women in the country’s music industry often have to fight harder for recognition, pointing out that female artistes frequently receive less attention than their male counterparts even when they put in similar effort.

During a recent interview with TV3 Ghana, the ‘Rent Free’ singer reflected on the early days of her career and how she balanced music with her time in school while trying to get her songs heard beyond her immediate circle.

“I’ve had a very interesting journey, from being on campus and doing music and in school. And also having to move around a lot because I live in Kumasi. So I always had to be going on to the other regions, you know, to promote my music and all of that,” she said.

Based in Kumasi, Gyakie explained that building a following meant regularly leaving home to promote her music in other parts of the country, a routine that quickly became part of her path as a rising artiste.

Despite the work she and other women put in, the singer believes the industry still gives more visibility to male performers. According to her, female musicians often have to invest extra effort before their work receives meaningful recognition.

“Being a female, like you mentioned as well, it takes some extra efforts to do certain things because it’s really male-dominated and I feel like people don’t really pay attention to the females,” she stated.

She stressed that the challenge is not limited to her own career, noting that several female artistes continue to release albums, EPs and perform at shows but still struggle to attract the same level of public attention.

“I’m not the only person who has dropped a project. We have other female artists who have dropped albums and EPs. They’ve done shows, but the attention they get is not as heavy as it is,” Gyakie further stated.
