“I didn’t beat my baby mama” – Kelvyn Boy clarifies

0

Popular afrobeat music sensation Kelvyn Boy has cleared the air on allegations that he assaulted the mother of his twins back in 2022.

This was after a video of a woman claiming to be Deborah Kponyi, the mother of his twins, claimed in a 2022 interview that she had been subjected to continuous abuse by the artiste, even providing evidence of wounds sustained from the alleged attacks.

Addressing the issue for the first time in an interview with Andy Dosty on Accra-based Hitz FM, Kelvyn Boy argued that he doesn’t know the lady in question and that all reports and allegations against him were fake.

He said: “It was when I heard and saw a picture of myself and some strange woman who had been beaten with marks and blood, and it was reported that it was me who beat up my baby mama like that. I was shocked; even my guys were like, ‘but this is not Debbie’.”

He denied any truth to those stories, boldly declaring “that’s not true”.

Kelvyn Boy explained the circumstances of his arrest. Stating that he was arrested after a simple argument with his baby mama and not as a result of an assault.

“We had an argument, and she went to report to the police that I had picked some things from the shop,” he explained.

He attributed the false allegations as a side effect of being a public figure. Stating how people will twist his words to “get the attention of the people”.

When asked about why he didn’t come out to clear the air earlier, he explained that he was busy promoting his hit single “Down Flat” and didn’t want to get distracted. Hence the silence from his camp.

He shared that following the public revelation of the memoir, a woman he was interested in pursuing a relationship with became apprehensive about moving forward with him.

He said, “That stuff (Yvonne Nelson’s allegations) is crazy, bro. That stuff almost made me lose a relationship. A current relationship. Before this book [Yvonne Nelson’s memoir], I was talking to one innocent girl who is not famous but immediately that book came out, everything became shaky. The girl was feeling like, ‘Omo, this guy, have you changed? Are you sure you won’t do me the same?”

It will be recalled that that Yvonne Nelson in her memoir, ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’ launched on June 18, 2023, narrated how she found out her then boyfriend, Iyanya, was cheating on her with Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh.

Yvonne also detailed how Iyanya, who was the love of her life, painfully shredded her heart into pieces with lies, unfaithfulness, and deceit.

One issue that has grown to be an albatross around the necks of Ghanaian musicians is the capacity of Nigerian artists like Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, and Asake to hold sold-out concerts at the O2 Arena in the United Kingdom.

Industry players and fans in Ghana have constantly been bugging the musicians in the country to try and also hold such concerts and fill the indoor arena with a seating capacity of around 20,000, which makes it one of the largest indoor venues in the UK.

“It’s fine, I’ve watched Asake’s O2 performance and the way he carried himself on stage. It’s nice . What I can do is to just applaud him and continue work harder, strive for the best but I can’t say Asake has filled O2, so Stonebwoy who is hosting shows and going on tours, Stonebwoy is not good. King Promise has the number 1 song on Boomplay, the whole Africa. Are we talking about it enough?”

He continued; ‘I’m struggling to even secure shows to perform, let alone think about filling the O2 Arena. As an artiste, my top most priority is to feed my family and not to fill O2 Arena. Boys are hungry! We can’t even get shows to perform. The shows that were organized in December, how many of them was I billed to perform for me to worry about O2?” he queried.

“In Ghana, even if we organize free shows, check the numbers and compare it with paid shows.

They don’t attend. When you host a show abroad, they would rather use the money to attend funeral or wedding because there will be free food, but the same Ghanaians will say a Nigerian has filled O2, so Amerado is not working hard because he is doing a video with his mom to promo his song. If I don’t promo my song, how will I fend for myself?…Let’s support ourselves. We should stay United and push ourselves to the top,” he concluded.

“The truth might be uncomfortable, but being a member of parliament is a serious undertaking, not a mere concert. I believe it’s too early for him to be contemplating politics. He should concentrate on managing his school and nurturing his creative talents,” Ola Michael commented.

He further advised against Lilwin’s potential venture into politics and recommended that the actor take to heart the guidance provided by individuals such as former President Mahama, who cautioned against pursuing a political path.

“Even former President Mahama advised him not to go into politics, he should pay heed to that advice. I think he should not try venturing into politics, he should throw his resources into something worth spending on”.
