“Ghanaians only love your content when you’re struggling” – Jeffery Nortey argues

0

Filmmaker and content creator Jeffery Nortey has sparked a conversation about what he sees as a troubling trend in Ghana’s entertainment landscape, particularly within the skit-making industry.

Speaking on a GhanaWeb’s X Space discussion, he contended that many Ghanaians only show support for content creators out of pity, a phenomenon he refers to as liking content “from the angle of poverty.”

According to Nortey, this dynamic creates a bizarre environment where the audience’s engagement is tied not to the quality of the content itself, but to the creator’s perceived financial hardship.

“A lot of people like to watch from the angle of poverty. There is this pitness in it, so they like to watch your content more,” he explained.

This mindset leads to an influx of support for creators who appear to be struggling, as the audience feels a sense of contribution to their success.

Nortey shared a personal anecdote, noting that he has met people who explicitly told him they are the ones “giving me money on YouTube,” underscoring the audience’s belief that their views are an act of charity rather than appreciation for creative work.

The most challenging aspect of this trend, Nortey argued, is how it punishes success.

“Immediately, to make them know you have made it, they will be like they don’t want to watch your content, so you get money,” he said.

This shift in audience behavior means that once a creator achieves financial stability, the very fanbase that supported them begins to lose interest.

This creates a disincentive for creators to share their achievements, forcing them to remain silent about their financial progress for fear of alienating their audience.

Nortey believes this behavior makes it incredibly difficult for individuals in the comedy industry to be open about their successes.

Sarkodie Explains Temporary Removal Of ‘Jamz’ And ‘No Pressure’ Albums From Streaming Platforms

0

Sarkodie has addressed the sudden disappearance of his albums ‘Jamz’ and ‘No Pressure’ from major streaming platforms, assuring fans that the situation is temporary and not tied to rumours about selling his catalogue.

The popular Ghanaian rapper talked about the issue during an Instagram Live session on September 1, 2025, explaining that the glitch stemmed from a change in music distributors.

“So what is happening is we are doing a re-upload with a new distribution channel. We have a new partnership that we have to…but it was supposed to be very smooth, but that couldn’t happen,” he stated.

According to Sarkodie, the plan was for the transfer to be seamless, but technical challenges delayed the relaunch.

“So now we took down, now we have to re-upload. So I think it was actually supposed to go back today, but let’s see if not, maybe midnight or… I’m really pushing the team to get it back on. So don’t worry guys,” he said, urging fans to remain patient.

The rapper emphasized that the missing albums are the result of an internal transition rather than any rights sale.

“It’s a thing that came from our side that we had to do the transition of moving it from one distribution channel to the other, but then it was supposed to be very smooth, and that thing is very hard, but then it went down,” he added.

Speaking on Hitz FM, she stressed that sexual satisfaction should not be mistaken for love. “If you get a guy and you love him so much because of the sex, it is not love. If you are thinking that because he satisfies you, you won’t let him go, you are wrong,” she explained.

Ghana Prisons Service Dismisses Rumours About Agradaa’s Alleged Health Woes

The Ghana Prisons Service has rubbished widespread rumours suggesting that incarcerated televangelist Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Agradaa, is battling severe health complications while serving her sentence.

In a press release signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Deputy Director of Prisons Janet Asabea, the Service described the reports as false, misleading, and deliberately fabricated by individuals seeking attention and followers on social media.

The statement comes after speculation spread online alleging that the founder of Heaven Way International Church was suffering from swollen legs, frequently in tears, and receiving special medical attention from her private doctor at least four times a week.

The Prisons Service, however, firmly denied these claims, stressing that Agradaa has not experienced any major health complications and that no inmate in their custody receives preferential treatment.

“These claims are nothing more than calculated attempts to incite unnecessary tension and mislead the public. We urge Ghanaians to disregard such fabrications,” the statement read.

Agradaa, who was handed a 15-day jail sentence, continues to serve her time without incident, according to the Service.

The younger brother of late Ghanaian TikTok star Frimpong Elvis, popularly known as Osanju, has spoken publicly for the first time since his sibling’s sudden death on Monday, September 1, 2025.

The TikTok community was thrown into mourning after news broke that the vibrant content creator had passed away just hours after interacting with fans in a live session following FC Barcelona’s draw against Rayo Vallecano.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based blogger Nana Baffour, Osanju’s brother recounted the events that unfolded before his tragic demise.

According to him, the social media personality had been in high spirits on Sunday, August 31, 2025, when he watched the Barcelona match and later hosted a live TikTok session.

However, he later complained of a severe headache before bidding farewell to his landlord and retiring to his room.

At around 2 a.m., the landlord reportedly rushed to Osanju’s room after hearing unusual sounds and discovered him lying unconscious on the floor.

He immediately alerted others, who helped rush the TikToker to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
