Ghanaian rapper Flowking Stone witnessed an unfortunate incident in Kumasi on Sunday, February 5 when his Jeep caught fire.

Zionfelix.net gathers that the misfortune happened at KNUST JHS when the rapper and management were on their way to KNUST poolside for a meeting. Ghana Fire Service rushed to the scene to help put the fire off minutes after it started.

According to a management member who narrated the mischance, they believe the mishap was caused by electrical fault.

Gims added that no management member was injured including the “Fire Bon Dem” rapper.

Thank God for life. Yesterday at 4:30 pm, we had a not so pleasant experience as we were on our way to the Knust Poolside for a meeting. Our car caught fire at the Knust JHS that we believe may have been caused by an electrical fault.

Fortunately, neither Flowking nor myself got injured, as we managed to get out of the car before the car was totally set on fire. Security men from the campus called the fire service to put out the fire. We will like to assure everyone that Stone Da Flowking Bradez is safe and sound.” Gims narrated the accident on Facebook.

Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede Not My Competitors… I’m Targeting Salif Keita, Others – Kojo Antwi

7

Mr. Music Man, Kojo Antwi after many years of entertaining the world with his soothing voice says he has never thought of competing any Ghanaian musician.

The maestro in an interview with Nana Romeo on Accra FM’s ‘Ayekoo Ayekoo’ show disclosed that he has never seen any Ghanaian musician as a threat to his career because he has always targeted other legendary artistes on the African continent.

To him, Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede are not his contenders because he is busily chasing other top African artistes. Kojo Antwi further named Salif Keita, Youssou N’Dour and Angélique Kidjo as the people he wants to compete with but not Ghanaian musicians.

“You wanted to ask whether I’m in a competition with Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede or not. My target since the inception of my career has always been to be one of the topmost musicians in Africa so Salif Keita, Youssou N’Dour and Angélique Kidjo are the ones I’ll compete with.”

Even if I don’t get to that level, I want to be in the middle because that has always been my target.” Kojo Antwi said.

He added, “my policy in life is always to aim higher so even when you fall, you will not hit the floor but be in the middle.”

“I have never made anyone in Ghana my target. I call any artiste I see in the crowd at my show to perform because I don’t feel that there is a competition.”

The Ghanaian Afro pop, highlife and reggae musical artist added that he has no problem with Daddy Lumba and Amakye Dede as some people think. He revealed that even though they have not recorded songs together, he has worked with them on other projects.

Ghanaian Video Directors Are Incompetent And Lazy – Galaxy

1

Ghanaian music group Gallaxy, has lambasted Ghanaian music video directors.

The “Gborgborvor” hitmakers on Adom FM’s entertainment show expressed disgust over music videos directed by Ghanaians.

Kwesi Dave and Bra Chicki described Ghanaian music video directors as lazy and incompetent people who do not improve on their works. They spit this venom to explain why they contracted a Michael Williams, a Nigerian music video director to shoot the video for their latest single, Dab.

Gallaxy during the conversation rated the ‘Dab’ music video directed by the Nigerian above all their music videos directed by Ghanaians.

“The Ghanaian video directors are not competent and again they do not learn on the job to produce quality videos, they are lazy and do not have time for the job but Nigerian directors are dope and have time for whatever they do”, they accused.

They added, ‘the only thing a Ghanaian director knows is renting a camera and start shooting without learning on the specific job for someone to have a feel of good visuals’.

They noted that most of the directors they have worked with have produced what they described as ‘rubbish’, which could not enhance their promotion.

“We are not saying Ghanaian directors are not good but the Nigerians have time for their works which Ghanaians should emulate to produce quality”, they said.

They further noted that Nigerians do not produce any better songs than Ghanaians but always have better and quality videos to support their songs which Ghanaians lack.

“Nigerians don’t compose any better songs but when you watch their videos, they in a way tell you the meaning of the song for you to have that feeling”, they said.

Hands Down: ‘Solo’ Is Winning Most Popular Song Of The Year – Article Wan

1

Even before nomination list for this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards comes out, Article believes his hit single; Solo deserves mot popular song of the year award.

The Reggae/Dancehall musician speaking to Zionfelix on Radio Univers’ Brunch2Lunch entertainment show said the song released in February 2016 was the most popular song in the year under review. According to him, organisers of the awards and the media are all aware that ‘Solo’ was the most popular song in 2016.

Even though Article Wan thinks he deserves the most popular song award, he quickly added that “let’s see what happens on the day of the event because everything depends on votes and the organisers”.

“Solo was the most popular song from February I released it till the end of the year. It is still trending in town. I am not saying because I’ the man behind it. The media, fans and even the organisers of the awards can testify to what I’m saying so with that category I’m winning it hands down.”  He said.

Telling Zionfelix his chances of winning New Artiste of The Year Award, he said, “I’m not the only artiste who came up last year so let’s see what happens but we are going for the best. It is a competition but not a fight so it is fine when I win but when I lose, it tells me to work harder”

Entertainment Critics In Kumasi Deserve More Than Bottled Water And Rice – Chief Tells Radio Stations

5
Nana Akuoku

Zionfelix.net reported late 2016 about the sad treatment some radio stations in Kumasi give entertainment critics who appear on their show to execute their job.

Two entertainment critics in the Garden City, Amandzeba Phiiphi Smyth and Evans in an interview with Zionfelix.net last year complained bitterly about the treatment meted out to them when they serve as panels on some entertainment shows in the city. This public announcement of their dissatisfaction generated heated arguments between entertainment show hosts, show producers, station managers, and the critics. From the look of things, some radio stations in Kumasi have not improved on the services they give to these pundits.

The new person to add his voice to the cry is Otumfuo Assinhene, Nana Akuoko. The chief who doubles as an entertainment critic in an open letter written to radio stations and forwarded to Zionfelix.net believes persons who appear on entertainment shows deserve better treatment. Nana Akuoko who acknowledged the water, drinks, and food some radio stations give to entertainment critics added that they deserve more than that.

He pleaded with the stations to give them something small for transportation because they provide content for their platforms.

Read Otumfuo Assinhene, Nana Akuoko’s open letter below:

“Entertainment critics in Kumasi deserve the best treatment.

The entertainment industry has come to stay. It is an undeniable fact that the citizens of Ghana and especially Kumasi do patronize these entertainment programs. The messages they sent to these shows coupled with the phone-in’s attest to this fact.

The stories reviewed sometimes are major stories for our morning shows on radio and television. What is more humbling is the seriousness our governments are attaching to the industry by having a ministry in charge of it with other disciplines.

Whilst we have all paid our dues to this success story, electronic media owners and/or managers in Kumasi are yet to realise this feat. They don’t care at all destabilizing entertainment shows for other shows. Sometimes the presenters beg for airtime for such shows. Little or no premium is placed on these shows. It is therefore not surprising that the critics on these shows are not looked after. Having been an entertainment critic for quite some years, we are ignored. You go to these shows to work for a television or radio station and all that an entertainment critic get is a bottle of water; and if you are lucky, a takeaway pack of rice or pastries or a bottle of drink.

They forget that we incur transportation cost or fuel cost to come for these shows. We do these at the peril of our lives because sometimes we become targets for the industry players we make comments on their stories and also the fact that we can be faced with legal actions.

I recount incidents where some critics have suffered different forms of attacks from industry players and/or fans who have been offended by comments made. Yet, you don’t get an electronic media house owner or manager even calling you at the end of the year to appreciate you for contributing towards the success of these entities, left alone giving you something to take care of your fuel or transportation, not forgetting the research work we do before appearing on these shows.

I don’t think this will be asking for too much. I am by this write-up urging all entertainment critics who have put their reputation, integrity and life on the line to consider either boycotting these shows or negotiating for some good terms to cushion and motivate them.

We have been fighting for the industry, its high time we fight for ourselves. Long live entertainment critics in Kumasi Long live Ghana.

George Quaye Has Been Taking Cash From Musicians – Kwasi Aboagye Alleges

1

Peace FM entertainment show host, Kwasi Aboagye has accused George Quaye, PRO for Vodafone Ghana Music Awards of taking cash from musicians promising them of awards.

The radio presenter on Thursday’s edition of his show advised Mr. Quaye to resign as spokesperson for the awards. He added that he should not go 400 meters close to “anything that has to do with Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.” According to him, many Ghanaians including musicians have accused organisers of the awards of taking bribe from undeserving people to award them so he least expected the Pundit Show host to make that “careless” allegation.

He stated clearly that “George is the person who has been collecting money from people”. The entertainment show host explained that no individual at Charterhouse would request cash from musicians assuring them of winning awards aside George Quaye. He posited that nobody can influence VGMAs board to win an award due to how the scheme is structured.

“George Quaye should resign as PRO for VGMAs. After resigning as spokesperson, he should not come 400 meters close to anything related to the music awards.

The scheme has been suffering from perception that people have been paying bribe. Musicians upon musicians have been accusing the scheme of taking bribe to award certain people. The reason why I’m saying George should resign is that, George is the person who has been taking cash from people.

If it is not George who has been requesting cash from the musicians, then who has been doing so? Is it Nii Ayittey Hammond, Iyiola Ayoade, Theresah or who?

Anyone who tells you he can take bribe for you to win award is deceiving you looking at how the scheme works. Judging from what I know about the awards, nobody can take money and make you win one. Nobody can influence anybody to win award at VGMAs so when I hear those things I always laugh.

So for George to make that allegation, it means that he is the one who has been doing that. He has been telling people to give him money assuring them of winning award.” Kwasi Aboagye said before he ended his show.

He later asked bosses at Charterhouse to take action against George Quaye for his bribery claim because what he said “bothers on the credibility of the awards”.
