‘The Song Was Everywhere’ – Sista Afia Questions Asuoden’s TGMA Exclusion

0

Ghanaian singer Sista Afia has opened up about one of the biggest disappointments of her music career, revealing that she still struggles to understand why her hit collaboration Asuoden failed to secure a nomination at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

The song, which featured award-winning artiste Kuami Eugene, enjoyed significant airplay across radio and television platforms shortly after its release and quickly became one of the most talked-about records at the time. Yet when the awards nominations were announced, the track was nowhere to be found.

Speaking in an interview with MC Portfolio on Angel FM in Kumasi, Sista Afia said the exclusion marked a turning point in how she viewed the awards process.

“Asuoden really hurts me till now, that was when I realised there’s a sabotage going on with me. In less than two weeks after I released it, the song was everywhere, but when nominations came out, Asuoden wasn’t in,” she said while reflecting on the success of the song.

The singer disclosed that she had submitted several works for consideration in about eight different categories, including Best Vocal Performance and other top award slots. Despite the number of entries, she did not receive a single nomination.

To her, the absence of Asuoden from the shortlist remains particularly difficult to accept, especially given the song’s popularity and visibility at the time.

She said the outcome left her questioning whether there were factors beyond talent, hard work and proper submission requirements influencing recognition within the awards scheme.

Despite her frustrations, the singer insisted she would not abandon her principles in pursuit of nominations or industry approval.

“I’m not the type of person to kiss asses. I do my work how I’m supposed to, so if that’s what it takes, I’m sorry because I don’t kiss asses,” Sista Afia stressed.

Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy And Others Helped NAM 1 Build Trust In Menzgold – Bullet Claims

0

Bullet has claimed that Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM 1, deliberately surrounded himself with some of Ghana’s biggest entertainment personalities as part of a strategy to build public trust in Menzgold and his other business ventures.

Speaking on Angel FM in an interview with MC Portfolio, the Rufftown Records boss said the former Menzgold and Zylofon Media CEO was never genuinely invested in the music business. Instead, he alleged that celebrities were recruited to help strengthen the credibility of businesses that were seeking public confidence.

According to Bullet, the signing of top musicians to Zylofon Media was less about developing talent and more about creating an image that would attract investors and reassure potential customers.

He argued that the involvement of well-known artistes gave many Ghanaians the impression that the company was trustworthy, encouraging them to place their money with Menzgold.

“NAM 1, you don’t know anything about music. You have made money, and because you wanted people to trust you in the business you are doing, you signed celebrities and artistes so that they would showcase themselves. When the public sees that these artistes are on your label, they will go and save money.

“If it were in Europe, all artistes who took money from NAM 1 would have to return it because he used the artistes, including Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, to deceive Ghanaians,” he alleged.

Bullet went on to suggest that in some countries, public figures who benefited from similar endorsement arrangements could be compelled to refund money if authorities determined that their influence played a role in attracting investors.

The artiste manager also revisited speculation surrounding the late Ebony Reigns and reports that she had contemplated a move from Rufftown Records to Zylofon Media before her death.

He dismissed suggestions that such a decision would have been surprising, noting that artistes often weigh their options whenever a financially strong label enters the industry.

Bullet explained that musicians are naturally drawn to opportunities that promise greater investment, improved career prospects and stronger promotional support, adding that such movement is common within Ghana’s music scene.

Meanwhile, Nana Appiah Mensah and several companies associated with him remain entangled in a number of legal cases. The allegations against him include unlicensed gold trading, unauthorised deposit-taking, investment inducement, defrauding by false pretences, fraudulent breach of trust and money laundering.

I Don’t Depend On Men For Money In Relationships – Sista Afia

Sista Afia asserts that financial dependence has never been part of her approach to relationships. According to her, she has never asked a man for money while in a relationship.

During an interview with MC Portfolio on Kumasi-based Angel FM, the “Weather” singer opened up about why she chooses to stand on her own financially, stressing that she earns her own income and does not believe in depending on a partner for survival.

“I’ve never asked any man for any amount of money before. When I’m dating a man, I don’t ask them for MoMo because I make my own money, and I know I will always make my own money. It doesn’t matter if the man is rich; it will be worrying if I go with that mentality. I make my own money. If you want to buy for me, I will appreciate it, but don’t expect me to ask you for it,” she noted.

According to her, some men become uncomfortable around independent women because they feel they cannot easily control them. She argued that a woman’s ability to provide for herself should not be viewed as a threat in a relationship.

“Most Ghanaian men like to take care of a woman they can control. The IQ is low. If you get a hardworking woman who makes her own money, respects and loves you, why would you have that mentality that the woman will be competing with you?” she said.

Touching on her love life, Sista Afia explained that she does not limit herself to any particular type of man and is open to dating even corporate professionals often described as “9-5ers.”

She, however, admitted that finding someone who understands her beyond the fame has been difficult. While she is currently not chasing a relationship, the singer confessed she is someone who loves deeply and has previously been with men who struggled to believe that a celebrity woman could be financially independent and still not ask them for money.

“I Don’t Have A Car, I Use Uber For My Movements” – Christiana Awuni Reveals

0

Veteran Ghanaian actress Christiana Awuni has shed light on the realities of getting around despite her long-standing career in the film industry, revealing that she currently has no personal vehicle and depends largely on ride-hailing apps for her daily movement.

In an interview, the Kumawood actress said transportation has become one of her biggest ongoing expenses, as she has to repeatedly book rides to attend events, meetings, and carry out routine errands.

She explained that she avoids public transport entirely, saying the fear of public judgment keeps her away from boarding a trotro.

“I don’t have a car, I use Uber for my movements. I can’t pick trotro either, I will be criticized, meanwhile those critics have not bought me a car,” she said.

Awuni also reflected on a previous time when she owned a manual transmission car but was unable to drive it because she never learned how to operate it. She said this meant she often had to depend on one of her children to handle driving duties whenever the need arose.

That situation eventually changed after the vehicle was reportedly impounded near the 37 Military Hospital area.

She recounted that she was later asked to visit an office to sort out documentation and settle outstanding payments before the car could be released.

According to her, the financial demand placed on her at the time was more than she could manage.

“They called me that there’s a debt on the car so I should come and pay, and I told them I couldn’t afford the balance,” she revealed.

Following this, the actress indicated that she has remained without a car and continues to rely entirely on ride-hailing services for transportation.

Lilwin Goes On His Knees To Make Passionate Appeal To Managers Of GH¢20 Million Film Development Fund – Watch Video

0

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin has made a passionate appeal to the committee in charge of the newly launched Film Development Fund following reports that GH¢5 million out of the GH¢20 million has already been released for the initiative.

In a video shared on his social media pages and recorded from what appeared to be his bedroom, the Kumawood star pleaded with members of the committee to ensure the money is disbursed to the right people within the movie industry.

According to Lilwin, the committee must exercise caution in the selection process to avoid giving the money to individuals who may end up diverting the funds into personal investments rather than using them to revive the film sector.

The actor warned that some beneficiaries could take the money and use it to acquire lands, build houses, or squander the funds instead of investing back into filmmaking and content production.

“They should be very careful so the money does not end up in the wrong hands,” he stressed in the video message.

Lilwin further argued that the fund managers should prioritize industry players who kept Ghana’s movie industry alive during its difficult years when the sector experienced a major decline.

According to him, some filmmakers, producers and actors continued releasing movies and investing in productions over the last decade despite the challenges facing the industry, and such people deserve recognition and support.

He urged the committee to identify those who remained committed to the industry during the downturn and reward them accordingly through the disbursement process.

His comments come at a time when the National Film Authority’s Film Development Fund has become one of the most talked-about initiatives in Ghana’s creative sector after government announced a GH¢20 million seed allocation to support the growth of the movie industry. Reports later indicated that GH¢5 million has already been released, sparking discussions about how the funds should be distributed among stakeholders.
